Barcelona … and it rained for two days and three nights in what felt like biblical proportions (ala “the Ark”)

Sagrada Família

We got into the grounds and interior of the Sagrada before it rained much. Had an excellent tour, but the rain that was predicted arrived and the towers were closed. That meant not being near the newest tower opened in February 2026, the Jesus Tower, the highest of them all. Only the towers symbolizing the disciples were completed when I was last here. The Mary tower, just shorter than the Jesus Tower was completed in 2021.

The Passion Facade
The Nativity Facade on the left, with the Maria Tower (a glass star) visible on the right.
The basilica now has a roof and interior design elements which allow church pews, all the liturgical components and services. When I was here before services only occurred in the crypt. And there were sections of the columns lying on the floor.
The highlight of returning!

These gorgeous stained glass windows and the columns symbolic of trees were not completed until 2010. Seeing the interior was really striking! This church is more appealing to me than others I’ve visited because of the natural elements integrated in its design. The light and colors are stunning and somehow spiritual.

Closer view of the Passion Facade.
A little irreverent of me to say it looks like sudoku, the numerical square is actually a “magical constant sum” square that totals 33 – The age Jesus was at his crucification.
I love the brass doors of cathedrals.
A wise thought to end the Sagrada visit.
“And what is the truth?”

Leaving the cathedral we were rained upon with a vengeance. Enough so that I hurried us along …… but in the wrong direction. Meant probably another 8 blocks or so in the rain. Beth sorted us out! Glad of my goretex shoe choice for the day and other rain resistant gear, but we were wet and steamy!!! Required some downtime in our inn.

Barcelona Guitar Trio at the Palau de La Musica

The trio played wonderful Spanish guitar. Very accomplished performers! And several pieces featured a stellar flamenco dancing couple. Felt special.
Drinks beforehand.
The building itself was worth the ticket price. It’s opulent. The lighting during the performance added to the ambiance of the evening which was applauded enthusiastically!

We found a taxi quickly and whisked back to our beds! The music drove the disappointment of the rain away!

  1. Even in rain, stunning.

The picture of your friend with both a glass of white wine and red wine in her hands made me recall a friend of mine whenever given a choice between two things. Instead of choosing one, he always said “yes.” As in, I’ll take both.

I hope this adventure was enjoyable and filled your bucket full again!! Thanks for taking me along.
